Description:
As traffic consultant to the Borough of Narberth, Valley Forge Laboratories provided engineering services for the redevelopment of this site. Originally, Albrecht’s Garden Center was the only occupant of the property. As part of their planned reduction in size, the site was proposed for a five building shopping center totaling nearly 25,000 square feet. The Borough, as well as local community groups, opposed the development. Eventually, after numerous zoning hearings, a conditional use was granted and the site was developed as shown below.

Working with the Borough and the law firm of Fox, Rothschild, O’Brien & Frankel of Lansdale, VFL was involved in every step of the process, from the traffic study that determined there would be no detrimental impacts to the surrounding area, to the various recommendations in landscaping, signage, parking lighting and fencing that were instrumental in balancing the needs of the site with the needs of the community.

As a result, this development reflects the characteristics of the historic Borough of Narberth. The sensitivity to the surrounding neighborhood inherent in the design provides residents and neighbors with a level of buffering and comfort not often seen in modern design.
